Aerial photography - Ancient Gallery

These large arrays were used for the reception of ITV on channels 6 to 13. They were only used as a last resort, because they were big, heavy, expensive (about 5 guineas, I recall) and difficult to install. They had very good gain and directivity, and were often used to combat ghosting. Note the phasing bars linking the terminals of the dipoles to the central cable connection point. I’ve never seen one of these used for horizontal polarisation. Because these arrays overhung in all directions, they could be a bit of a problem on a shared chimney. It was not unknown for the neighbour to threaten to modify an array with a hacksaw when it loomed menacingly over his own modest installation, ‘spoiling the picture’.
