Both
aerials are cheap types. The lower aerial has the mast between
the elements. The one and a quarter inch aluminium mast is too
long. The installer decided not to bother fitting a new chimney
bracket and fixing kit. Instead he re-used a very old one (despite
the fact that the lashing wire is almost corroded through) but
this gave him a problem. The old bracket had holes for 2”
U bolts made from ¼” bar and he hadn’t got
any. But what he did have was some old mast clamps, so these were
pressed into service as makeshift U bolts. They have distorted
the mast, creating a weak point.
