Aerial photography - Ancient Gallery
For many years a lot of the major TV rental firms had their own aerial riggers, such was the volume of business. Their favourite UHF aerials were branded ‘Telefusion’. It used to be possible to say to a new customer “I see you used to rent from DER!” just by looking at the aerial. This is a very early example of these ‘rental’ aerials. It was used for reception of BBC2 on channel 33 from Crystal Palace, and probably was designed for that channel only rather than for Channel Group A. Later versions had a very large flat plate reflector and a folded dipole. The junction box wouldn’t accept 7mm ‘low loss’ cable without a struggle; it was designed for a 5mm semi-airspaced cable.
