Wright's Aerials

Aerial photography - Ancient Gallery

Call me a sentimental old fool, but I’m saddened to see a once-splendid aerial in such a distressed condition. Aerialite produced a stacking kit that was used with two of their 18 element arrays. The support was quite elaborate, with a cradle used to link the two arrays. A cross arm also linked across, and this was fixed to an upside down cranked mast that clamped to the main mast. The kit included a phasing harness, and the combiner simply connected the two legs and the downlead with no matching device. I’m not certain about this, but I think the two legs were something other than 75Ω cable. The element spacing of the arrays supplied was wider than normal, and I wonder if the arrays were designed to match the special cable. The second array has had its fall temporarily arrested by the phasing harness, and now presents a potential hazard to passers by.
