These strange Group A contract aerials were briefly on the market about ten years ago. I can only think that someone performed some sort of test and found by trial and error that the gain seemed to increase if the reflector was moved away from the dipole. Possibly the dipole impedance matched 75-Ohm feeder a bit better with the reflector further away. Or something. The reflector is ‘back to front’, but it won’t make any difference.
