The satellite downleads were 110m long, and there was no real possibility of fitting amplifiers along their length because by the time we became involved they had been made inaccessible. So we fitted four line amps in a box just behind the dish. The Vision line amps had 13 to 20dB gain (in other words they included 7dB of equalisation). There was the possibility that the amps would be overloaded because they were so close to the dish, but in fact they weren’t.
