Wright's Aerials

Aerial Photography - DIY Gallery

I don’t know if the aerials that DIY shops sell come with instructions, but if so this DIY enthusiast didn’t read them. I dread to think what would happen if he bought some flatpack furniture! The glaring error is that the dipole is mounted behind, rather than in front of, the reflector. In the 1920s it didn’t take Prof Yagi long to figure out that this is far from the optimal arrangement. This aerial simply won’t work, but it doesn’t matter really because it’s fixed on a tiny loft mount so it will soon fall down.

Thanks to Graeme Spreadbury for this contribution.
