These two dipoles were tuned to approximately 40MHz and 70MHz. They were both connected to a cordless phone base station, illegal in the UK but very popular. This was in the days when the UK legislators hadn’t grasped that people were importing and using RF gadgets despite the UK’s absurdly restrictive regulations, which were largely intended to prop up a manufacturers’ cartel. Since perfectly sensible short range cordless phones were illegal, many people thought they might as well go for the long range ones. A lot of farms installed this equipment so the farmer could man the phone and the tractor at the same time.
