Wright's Aerials

Aerial photography - Ancient Gallery

The large aerial at the back is a three element Band I yagi.  Well, it’s a sort of yagi. The mast serves as the lower half of the active element. It’s really more like a quarter wave dipole with a ground plane and two passive elements than a normal yagi. I’ve never had a chance to dismantle one of these aerials so I don’t know how it contrives to match 75Ω cable accurately. I do know that this aerial is very old. I’d say that it dates from the early 1950s.

The (now collapsed) eight element Band III yagi is a late 1950s or early 1960s addition.
